Our Woodworking Process
At Aloe Place Studio, we go to great lengths to source the finest hardwoods and produce the best cutting boards and serving boards available. The boards start as rough cut lumber from our favorite local lumber yard. We meticulously select the finest grain and best character wood from the stack. Once back at the shop, we cut our lumber to the proper size and surface each board to the correct dimensions. For our end grain cutting boards we make additional cuts in order to achieve the book-matched appearance. For glue-up, we exclusively use Titebond 3 for a reliable bond and food safe surface. After the glue is dry, we extensively sand our boards, raise the grain, and sand again for a durable, smooth finish. The final step includes a soak in food grade mineral oil and a coat of beeswax to bring out the grain and protect against moisture.
